Steel support formwork systems are partly made of steel and partly of wood as supporting members. In some cases, primary load-bearing members are supported by steel and secondary or auxiliary load-bearing members by timber. Compared with the traditional formwork system composed of round steel pipes and square wood, the main steel support material is square steel (wall thickness 2.75), which has sufficient load-bearing capacity, stiffness and stability, and can reliably bear the weight of the new steel pipe . When pouring concrete, the lateral pressure and load generated during the construction process can significantly improve the engineering quality of the main structure.

The level of steel support welding determines the pressure-bearing capacity and service life of the support, which is directly related to the quality and safety of the project. During the welding process of steel supports, problems such as unqualified welding fillet size, missing welds, welding slag, weld scars, undercuts, pores, false welds, cracks, etc. may easily occur, which affects the quality of the support. The editor will introduce these issues one by one below:
1. Welding leg size
Welding leg sizes that do not meet standards are a problem for many manufacturers. The most common problems are: small welding legs, partial welding of fillet welds and the effect of welding on bolted connections.
2. Welding leg size inspection
Missing welding: Missing welding mainly occurs in the welding of movable joints, including: hollow flange pipes, channel steel inner reinforcement plates, inner cores and round pipes, etc.
3. Problems with pores, welding slag, welding scars, and undercuts
Porosity means that during the welding process, the gas in the molten pool has not completely overflowed from the molten pool, but the molten pool has solidified, forming holes on the surface of the weld. The reasons for the occurrence of pores include: moisture, low flow of welding protective gas, etc. The main reasons for the occurrence of welding slag are: the weld bead is not clean, the welding speed is too fast, etc. The main reasons for the occurrence of welding scars and undercuts are: high energy of the welding line, too long arc, improper angle of the welding rod (gun), etc.
4. Problems of false welding and cracks
False welding and cracks: False welding and cracks are as serious as missing welds. False welding means that the connection cannot be successful during the welding process, but an "illusion" of welding will occur. The occurrence of false welding has a lot to do with the welder's skills. The occurrence of cracks is mainly caused by factors such as the welder's skill, welding environment and welding structure, so each weld must be inspected.
Therefore, steel support refers to the use of steel pipes, H-shaped steel, angle steel, etc. to enhance the stability of engineering structures. Typically, they are angled connecting members, most commonly in herringbone and cross shapes. At present, steel supports are widely used in subways and foundation pits. Since steel supports can be recycled, they are economical and environmentally friendly.
