When working with anti corrosion steel pipe, proper cutting methods are essential to ensure smooth installation and long-term durability. In many projects, standard pipe lengths (such as 12 meters) may not always match the exact needs of construction. For instance, some parts may require only 3 meters of pipe. In these cases, accurate cutting becomes necessary.
There are multiple ways to cut anti corrosion steel pipe, and the choice depends on project requirements, available tools, and the operator’s skill. Selecting the right method not only improves efficiency but also ensures the pipe remains intact without deformation, which is crucial for welding and performance.
Oxygen-acetylene flame cutting involves adjusting oxygen and acetylene valves to change the flame type: neutral flame, oxidizing flame, or carburizing flame. This flexibility allows for different cutting effects, but precision control is required to avoid damaging the pipe surface.
Mechanical cutting can be performed using both external and internal mounting tools. This method works on the principle of lathe cutting, allowing for clean edges and bevel processing. Its advantages include:
· Large cutting span
· Ability to handle thicker pipe walls
· Minimal waste and no pollution
· No high heat, meaning the pipe material is not affected
· Better results for welding preparation
Water cutting uses high-pressure pumps combined with abrasive materials to create a clean and precise cut. It produces smooth edges and works well across different pipe diameters. However, its efficiency is relatively low, and the cutting thickness is limited by equipment capacity.
Plasma cutting is effective for metals that are difficult to cut with oxygen methods, such as stainless steel, aluminum, copper, titanium, and nickel. Key advantages include:
· Fast cutting speed, especially on thin carbon steel plates
· Smooth cutting surface with minimal thermal deformation
· Smaller heat-affected zone compared to flame cutting
In fact, plasma cutting can be up to 5–6 times faster than traditional oxygen cutting when applied to thin steel plates.
When handling anti corrosion steel pipe, the most important factor is selecting the cutting tool that meets welding and installation requirements. Using the wrong method can cause material damage, waste, or affect pipeline performance. For projects with thicker pipes and higher precision needs, mechanical cutting is often recommended. For special metals, plasma cutting offers better efficiency and cleaner results.
